The Greater Lansing UNA, multiple partners and individuals are combining efforts to raise $30,000 this year to help UNHCR fund another classroom for children in Horseed Primary School in Kakuma Refugee Camp in western Kenya. Over $9,000 has been donated since the beginning of the fundraising campaign last October. Will you help to raise the remaining $21,000?
Java Café Global Conversations:
Introduced this year, these informal gatherings provide an interactive way to learn about the issues facing the UN, the UNA, and our world. As always, we include outstanding expert presentations, panels and materials. In addition, there’s time for conversation with the speakers and one another…along with coffee, tea and cookies! We have hosted three cafe`s: “Congress and Crisis in the UN”, “Women as Leaders in the UN” and “Sustainable Development Goals.” To learn more about previous and upcoming Cafe`s – check out our website.
Our Earth Day event was held on April 20 to celebrate International Mother Earth Day, an official UN day, that reminds us about the importance of protecting our ecosystems for healthy and productive lives. A wonderful panel of experts shared insights gleaned from their experiences in the Middle East,Thailand, the Greek Isles and Africa.
